| 内容記述 | 国宝・薬師寺吉祥天画像は「麻布」に描かれているが、それが日本古来の麻である苧麻と大麻のどちらなのかは、はっきりと分かっていない。この研究では伝統的な手法を用いて、二つの麻布の再現を自ら試み、それぞれの素材の絵画材料としての特性を明らかにすると共に、最終的にその仏画に用いられた麻布が苧麻である可能性が高いことを示すまでの過程をまとめたものである。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The image of Kichijoten at Yakushiji temple is a national treasure, and is said to be painted on asanuno, a term that can mean either ramie or hemp. Both materials have long been used in Japan, and it is not known for certain which type of fiber it is. The present study attempts to independently reproduce the two types of fiber using traditional methods and to clarify their characteristics when used as painting materials. As a result, the type of fiber used in the Buddhist painting was ultimately found to likely be ramie, and the study summarizes the process by which this conclusion was reached. | |||||
